Vivienne Westwood and 24Bottles mark World Water Day 22 March 2019

Vivienne Westwood and 24Bottles release special edition Gaia Clima Bottle on World Water Day to raise awareness of the effects of climate change.

Vivienne Westwood and 24Bottles have teamed up again to create the brand-new special edition re-usable Gaia Clima Bottle, designed to raise awareness of the effects of climate change and the future of our planet.

Gaia Clima Bottle is launched on 22nd March 2019 to mark World Water Day, a date used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources, from sewage entering drinking water to the endless plastic waste pouring into river systems around the world.

Vivienne Westwood and climate change

The design of special edition Gaia Clima Bottle features Vivienne Westwood’s hand-written message; ‘Gaia! – the only one for me’.

The world-famous British designer has always been outspoken about environmental issues. The encounter with James Lovelock and his theories has lead Vivienne Westwood to raise awareness on climate change – and its effects – in the fashion industry.

James Lovelock is the scientist, environmentalist, and futurist behind the Gaia Theory, which postulates that the Earth functions as a self-regulating system.

The Gaia Theory

“The Gaia Theory (James Lovelock) is as revolutionary as the theories of Einstein or Darwin; indeed it is a more complete theory of evolution.
It has changed our perception of the world – and this will change our behaviour. Gaia is the name the Greeks gave the earth goddess, and Lovelock chose it because of his insight that the earth is alive; Gaia and her life-forms have evolved together in a self-regulation system, and together they create the atmosphere which keeps her cool.
If this harmony is broken then Gaia can no longer sustain or tolerate those same life forms; she, herself, will find a new equilibrium by moving to a hot state.”
