HOW WE HARVEST, TEST OUR PACK OUR SEA CHICORY SEAWEEDS

Our Sea Chicory is wild harvested, then dried naturally to preserve it’s dense nutritional value.

Pacific Harvest specialises in seaweed and has been trusted by the nutritional community since 2002.  We test our Sea Chicory for contaminants in external labs, before packing the flakes in our food grade facility in Auckland. As Sea Chicory is a wild harvested seaweed, we hand grade it in our food grade facility in Auckland before packing them into our bags. Please do check for detritus before consuming.

You may notice the colour can vary a little – Sea Chicory is light sensitive so please keep it in the dark if you wish to preserve it’s original colour. Some like the colour variation. We recently removed the zip lock from our bags to reduce the amount of overall plastic in the bag. Please use the resealable sticker we provide to keep moisture out.

WHAT IS THE WHITE POWDER ON SEA CHICORY?

You may notice a white powder on your Sea Chicory- this is the result of the amino acid, glutamine, which naturally rises to the surface as the leaf

USING SEA CHICORY IN YOUR KITCHEN:

Re-hydrate and add to salads as a colourful, crunchy and mild tasting addition or garnish a poke bowl or any dish for that matter!  The delicate fronds of Sea Chicory will add wonderful visual appeal as well as a nutrient density other garnish would find hard to match!

Add straight from the bag to soups or broths for added nutrients.

Directions:   To re-hydrate, soak seaweed in tepid water, stock or juice to soften (it will take on the flavour of what it has been soaked in). It will expand (to several times it’s dry size), brighten in colour, and assume a crunchy texture. Add near the end of cooking, avoid soaking for too long. It rehydrates very quickly – if you leave it soaking for too long it will start to feel more gelatinous, and the fronds will become less delicate and precise – this is normal for a red seaweed.

When you have soaked the seaweed be sure to tip the water it has been soaking into a nearby pot plant and watch with amazement over the next week or so as your plant laps up the nutrients and minerals in the water!
