About Organics |
|
richer in nutrients,
greater flavour! |
|
 |
All
our organic produce is clearly labelled, by classification of
organic as required by Bio-Gro.
These labels are;
CERTIFIED ORGANIC, which guarantees the quality of the
production and that of the final product. Certification guarantees
to the consumer, that the food they are buying has been produced to
recognised organic standards. The two internationally recognised
certification standards in N.Z. are BIO-GRO for organic farming and
DEMETER for biodynamic farming.
The other labels cover the different stages to certification;
ORGANIC CO . . . the first twelve months from being
registered
ORGANIC C1 . . . the second twelve months from being
registered
ORGANIC C2 . . . the third twelve months from being
registered
CERTIFED . . . from thirty-six months onwards
Each year, to renew certification an inspection of the property is
required. This includes an audit of the growers farming methods,
soil testing and leaf analysis.
UNCERTIFIED ORGANIC , this means produce is grown using
organic methods, but has not being audited by a certifying body.
Our suppliers assure the interigity of this product for us;
CHANTAL ORGANIC WHOLESALERS of Napier, and CERES
ENTERPRISES of Auckland.
These suppliers make regular visits to the growers, and are always
in communication especially during harvest time.
All
IE Produce direct growers are CERTIFIED, and have provided a copy
of their certificate.

HEALTHY FOOD FOR HEALTHY LIVING
The
reason is simple: organically reared animals and organically grown fruit
and vegetables ideally harbour no artificial fertilisers and none of the
hundreds of legally permitted insecticides, pesticides, fungicides,
herbicides, waxes, hormones, antibiotics or other additives present in
non-organic foodstuffs. Unlike soil that has suffered chemical abuse,
organically maintained soil is rich and well balanced, full of worms,
micro-organisms and friendly bacteria nature intended it to have. It
carries no poisons to leach into streams and rivers because creatures
that would otherwise destroy food crops are kept in check by natural
predators.
More importantly from the consumer's point of view, it will
contain a greater amount of essential nutrients - not to mention flavour
- when it is allowed to ripen naturally and is eaten in peak condition.
Further along the food-supply chain, all manufactured foods that carry
the organic symbol must, by law, be produced according to rigorous
standards which do not allow the addition of artificial colourings,
preservatives, or food enhancers. Thus, they will contain no tartrazine
to give your children asthma. no monosodium glutamate to give you a
headache.

FLAVOUR
Try an organic taste-test. Close your eyes and take a
bite of an organic apple, then take a bite of a commercially grown one.
Or dip your organic wholemeal bread soldier, made from stoneground,
organically grown wheat, into the yolk of an organic free-range egg, and
compare that with a finger of white, sliced, commercial blunderloaf
dipped into the pale, anaemic yolk of a battery-farmed egg. You won't
need a degree in food technology to tell which one tastes better.

NUTRITION
Without doubt, organically produced crops are richer
in nutrients than their commercially grown couterparts. The organic
farmer uses traditional methods such as crop rotation, green manure,
composting and organic fertilisers to keep the soil in good health and
to replace nutrients taken by previous crops. Non -organic produce tends
to have a much higher water content, and thus contains fewer essential
vitamins and minerals - which is why studies show consistently higher
levels of vitamins A and C in organic fruits and vegetables.

ORGANIC BIO GRO
WELCOME
TO i.e.produce New Zealand's first BIO-GRO certified organic foodmarket.
This provides our customers an independent guarantee that the BIO-GRO
certified products they buy in our shop are true to label. BIO-GRO
certification of retailers involves audited documentation and strict
procedures to be complied with for the complete supply chain- from the
grower right to the customer. It is important to relise that BIO-GRO
certification does not mean every thing in the shop is BIO-GRO
certified. What the BIO-GRO certification of the shop guarantees to you
the consumer is that all produce labelled as BIO-GRO certified is
genuinely certified by BIO-GRO. Seager Mason, Cheif Executive, BIO-GRO
